This story takes place sometime in that hazy Clexy nirvana of early season 2. Thanks to the-willow.insanejournal.com for audiencing above and beyond the call of duty.
Thanks to the-willow.insanejournal.com, Fox1013, Pirateygoodness, and (one other person from the remix chat whose name I forget, I am so, so sorry.) Anyway, thank you for audiencing and reassuring me about this story, and sorry for ignoring your advice about the end. That was totally on me.
"I can't do surgery with you anymore," Meredith said.
Cristina lifted her head from Meredith's tits, rolled back on her side. "What? Why?"
"Your hands…." Meredith picked up the right one, sucked Cristina's middle finger into her mouth. It still tasted faintly of latex. "All gloved up and wet."
"With internal organs and blood, you freak!" Cristina pulled her hand back, but she was smiling, a sort of dizzied hilarity. "You seriously can't watch me do surgery because it turns you on?"
Meredith's mouth twitched. "It doesn't turn me on exactly. It's just distracting. I'm thinking about sex when I should be thinking about sutures."
"I think I love you," said Cristina. "But I don't know why."
latxcvi and I were talking about Elliot Spitzer and Law & Order, and how sad we are that Jesse L. Martin is leaving the show, and pondering if Spitzer would be the season finale story or the season premiere story. And we told ourselves the awesome following story.2) The #1 Best Disclaimer on Law & Order was the time when they ripped their headlines from the Terri Schiavo case, and admitted that it was based on a true story. The #2 Best Disclaimer was when they noted that the Bronx DA in the following episode was completely fictional, entirely made up, and the real Bronx DA would never, ever, ever act like the one in the story to follow. (The one in the story to follow refused to release a man who had been convicted in the Bronx of a crime which Manhattan subsequently proved had been committed by another man entirely, and that man got convicted in Manhattan. In other words, he refused to release an innocent guy from prison after someone else had been convicted of the crime for which the innocent guy was locked up.)
Martha said, "My sister Tish could help."
Jack said, "Then get her out here."
"I think the request should come from you. She works for the PM. English PM."
Jack raised his eyebrows pretty high. "Didn't the new PM get rid of all of the Master's staff?"
"No, actually. His plans were mostly secret. Everyone who was in on it worked at his network, except his wife." Martha shrugged.
Jack shrugged, and picked up his phone, and told Ianto to get Tish Jones flown out to Wales overnight.
It turned out that Tish could not help, because Owen found the Retcon mistakenly shoved in with his necropsy equipment. Jack preferred amnesia to Crisis PR management.
Jack met Tish at the airport, and offered her dinner and a first class flight back to London.
When he called Ianto to change her plans, he said, "She likes me. And she doesn't ask uncomfortable questions because she knows she wouldn't like the answers. It's refreshing."
"Yes, sir," said Ianto. He did not tell Martha.
